Sir George Paton attended Scotch College in Melbourne and graduated from the University of Melbourne and Magdalen College, Oxford from 1926 to 1929. In the following year he became a barrister-at-Law and lectured in Law at the London School of Economics. He was Professor of Jurisprudence at the University of Melbourne from 1931 to 1951 when he was appointed Vice-Chancellor. He retired as Vice-Chancellor in 1968 and died in 1985.
