In February this year Victoria became the fourth jurisdiction in the world to decriminalise sex work. Sex workers championed for this since 1985, with the Prostitutes Collective of Victoria calling for decriminalisation in the state’s Neave Inquiry. While Aotearoa New Zealand decriminalised sex work in 2003 and the legislation is seen as progressive, advocates have raised issues with Section 19, which criminalises migrant sex work, and decriminalisation has not seen the end of stigma and discrimination. In this panel, our speakers reflect on sex work law reform in Victoria and Aotearoa New Zealand, join us as we look at the road to decriminalisation and the challenges ahead in guaranteeing the safety and dignity of all sex workers. Panellists include Dr Lynzi Armstrong, Fiona Patten MP, Dylan O’Hara (Vixen Collection) and Dame Catherine Healy.
