We are delighted to introduce ourselves as the new convenors of the ANZSOC Development and Life-course (DLC) Thematic Group. Together, we are excited to continue building on the group’s strong foundations and to create opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and connection across the DLC community.
We are passionate about the potential of developmental and life-course criminology to inform theory, policy, and practice. Cameron’s motivation comes from exploring how DLC perspectives can help us understand emerging challenges, from the impact of exceptional events like floods and bushfires to the rise of social media and digital life. While, for Corrie, it is the value of being part of earlier DLC group activities, such as the roundtable discussions that led to the book Frontiers in Developmental and Life-Course Criminology, that highlighted the importance of this community and inspired her to support others in the same way.
The DLC Thematic Group exists to bring together ANZSOC members interested in DLC criminology, promote collaboration, and showcase the work of our members. Our aims are to:
Ultimately, our goal is to build a supportive space where people at all career stages can share ideas, debate, and drive the field forward.
In the short term, we are excited to be hosting a DLC Thematic Group event on 4 December in Brisbane. This will be a chance to bring members together to discuss, debate, and collaborate on new and exciting research ideas. In the longer term, we want to see the group grow and continue to promote the outstanding research being done by our members. The strength of our group has always been in its tangible outputs, and we’re committed to continuing this tradition.
We warmly invite ANZSOC members, whether you are well established in the field or just curious about DLC, to get involved. The upcoming December event is the perfect place to start, and we hope to see many of you there. Together, we can continue to ensure that DLC criminology makes a strong and meaningful contribution to research, practice, and policy.
