ANZSOC Teaching Innovation Grant Scheme 2026

Purpose:

The ANZSOC Teaching Innovation Grant is a competitive research grant. Its purpose is to support innovative teaching projects that enhance criminology education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand and develop shareable resources for the criminology teaching community. The successful applicant(s) will be invited to present their findings at the ANZSOC conference or alternatively at an ANZSOC branded local event.

Eligibility:

• Project lead is a current financial member of ANZSOC.
• Project lead is a member of academic staff at an Australian, Aotearoa New Zealand, or Pacific university in criminology or related discipline.
• Project lead is either a continuing member of academic staff or holds a fixed term appointment that covers the duration of the proposed project.

 

Funding available:

• Maximum funding per project: $10,000 AUD (exclusive of GST)

 

Eligible expenses:

• Research assistant salary support and/or on-costs.
• Teaching relief for the named investigator(s).
• Direct associated research costs (including, but not limited to survey distribution, incentives, transcription).

 

What grant funds cannot be used for:

• Salary support and/or on-costs for the named investigator(s) are not an eligible expense for the purpose of the grant scheme.
• As a not-for-profit entity, ANZSOC will not pay indirect costs (overheads) on this grant scheme.

 

Project Requirements:

• Duration between 12 to18 months
• Focus on enhancing teaching and learning in criminology
• Must produce tangible resources/materials for sharing
• Clear plan for evaluation of teaching innovation
• Commitment to share results via ANZSOC website

 

Projects should target at least one of the following priority areas:

1. Development of innovative teaching methodologies
2. Creation of interactive learning resources
3. Projects addressing Indigenous perspectives in criminology education
4. Enhancement of work-integrated learning
5. Development of online/blended learning resources

1. Project outline (max 2000 words) including:
   Project objectives
   Innovation in teaching approach
   Implementation plan
   Expected outcomes
   Evaluation strategy
   Budget breakdown
   Timeline
   Dissemination plan
2. Supporting documents:
   Current CVs for project team
   Letter of support from Head of School/Department

Key Dates:

• Applications open: July/August 2026 (date to be confirmed)
• Applications close: 1 month from opening date
• Notification of outcomes: October/November 2026
• Project start date: Early 2027

 

Reporting Requirements:

• Final report including evaluation outcomes.
• Teaching resources for ANZSOC website.
• Presentation at the next annual ANZSOC conference or ANZSOC Local Event following completion of the project. If presenting at the next annual ANZSOC Conference, the conference registration fee will be waived for the presenter (one person).
• Article for ANZSOC PacifiCrim newsletter.
